Habitat: Extensive 100-yr.-old, 2nd-growth, dry-mesic hardwood forest on rolling topography: Quercus rubra-Acer saccharum-A. rubrum-Q. alba with Tilia americana, Betula papyrifera, & Carya cordiformis; shrub layer: Dirca palustris, Ribes cynosbati; assoc. for Athyrium: Anemone quinquefolia, Carex deweyana, Eurybia macrophylla (abundant), Uvularia sessiliflora (abundant), & Osmunda claytoniana (abundant).
