Habitat: Mature canopy of Acer saccharum, Quercus rubra, Tsuga canadensis, Tilia americana, Betula allegheniensis. Associates in sparse groundlayer: A. saccharum seedlings, Dirca palustris, Uvularia sessilifolia, Carex arctata, Lapsana communis Very abundant--dominant plant in understory, especially in partial shade around buildings and along road.
