Habitat:
Submerged forms were most common in sand and rock bottom areas while emergent form was more commin in mucky areas. Found in 0-2 meters of water. Common assoc.: (Schoenoplectus acutus) hardstem bulrush, (Vallisneria americana) wild celery, (Potamogeton richardsonii) clasping-leaf pondweed, (Zizania palustris) northern wild rice, (Nymphaea odorata) white water lily, (Nuphar variegata) spatterdock.
