Habitat: Somewhat compacted, fine-sandy loam. About 70% shade. Overstory of large Tsuga canadensis and Acer saccharum with T. canadense abundant in the understory. Also with Anthyrium filix-femina, Thelypteris phegopteris, Veronica chamaedrys, V. officinalis, Poa wolfii, Carex arctata, C. intumescens, Onoclea sensibilis, and Equisetum arvense.
