Habitat: Muck bottom in 0-1.5 meters of water where it often forms dense canopies. Common assoc.: (Brasenia schreberi) watershield, (Nymphaea odorata) white water lily, (Pontederia cordata) pickerelweed, (Utricularia vulgaris) common bladderwort, (Utricularia intermedia) flat-leaf bladderwort, (Ceratophyllum demersum) coontail, (Najas gracillima) northern naiad.
Occurrence Remarks: Relatively common in sheltered areas of the east bays.
