Habitat: Extensive prairie, flat, sandy soil, upland and not marshy, former farm fields converted to a prairie dominated by Andropogon gerardii, but without other native warm-season prairie grasses and only a small number of native prairie species, but with no weedy species. Abundant Persicaria coccinea (!), and scattered Solidago nemoralis, S. speciosa, Hieracium longipilum.
Occurrence Remarks: Rare, scattered plants, none very large, with characteristic "burnt sugar" odor.
