Habitat: Gentle slope, surrounded by extensive crop fields in broad valley, lawn with scattered planted trees of Acer saccharinum, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Ulmus americana, Gleditsia triacanthos.
Occurrence Remarks: Healthy sprouts 2.5 m. tall, from a cut off tree trunk, probably after attack by emerald ash borers (Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire) which have killed trees of this species in adjacent fencerow.
