Habitat: Old field or pasture, growing up to many native prairie species, Cirsium discolor, Helianthus grosseserratus, Solidago rigida, Symphyotrichum sagittifolium, Lespedeza capitata, Gentiana alba, G. andrewsii.
Occurrence Remarks: Compare with the same species in nearby marsh, Nee 66426, where much more robust.; Forming loose colonies, to 1.6 m. tall. Roots thickened at base of plant, then quickly thinned distally; without rhizomes. Rays bright yellow.
