Habitat: Sedge meadow with Eupatorium maculatum, Carex spp., and scattered shrubs of Salix eriocephala, Alnus incana ssp. rugosa, Cornus obliqua, C. sericea, Hasteola suaveolens, Cirsium muticum.
Occurrence Remarks: Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw.; Shrub 5 m. tall, in tight clump, the three largest stems 7 cm. in diameter, ca. 6 years old, with replacement stems of all sizes. Cut stem with very pale sapwood and darker heartwood, all oxidizing ferruginous within 2 minutes. Staminate catkins for next year green, hanging; pistillate "cones" of this year green, the scales separating during drying, with a very few old, dry, brown "cones" from last year still persisting.
