Habitat: Wet-mesic native prairie remnant on Crawfish River floodplain, deeply flooded in 2008.
Associated Species: With: Sphenopholis obtusata, Poa compressa, Spartina pectinata, Eryngium yuccifolium, Smilacina stellata, Platanthera leucophylla, Tradescantia ohiensis, Lysimachia quadriflora, Galium Tradescantia ohiensis, Lysimachia quadrifloram Galium boreale, Lobelia spicata, Rudbeckia hirta, Helianthus grosseserrata, Apocynum cannabinum, Asclepias cannabinum, Asclepias sulivantii, Sylphium laciniatum, Silphium integrifolium, Anemone canadensis, Solidago sp., Aster spp., Carex sp., Salix sp.
Occurrence Remarks: Forming dense colonies; rhizomes intertwined, hard, tough; clums erect to reclining, many twisted, flat, ca. 30-40 inches long; spikelets often absent or rudimentary. Abundant, locally dominant.
