Locality: United States, Wisconsin, Crawford, 2 km NW of Petersburg, below Hwy. S, just E of Sandhill Road junction, 2.75 km (by air) SW of Bel lCenter. Floodplain of Halls Branch creek.

Habitat: Old field and pastures, now DNR public hunting and fishing land, with scattered Acer negundo, Populus deltoides, Judlans nigra, with Salix eriocephala and colonies of Salix exigua; areas with less shade dominated by Phalaris arundinacea and Apios americana.
Occurrence Remarks: Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw.; tree, originally ca. 15 m. tall, 55 cm. dbh., with single trunk; bark coarsely scaly-furrowed. Wood specimen from branch 11 cm. in diameter, 24 years old; sapwood very pale, the heartwood light tan, the delimitation sharp but not always following the growth rings. Twigs very brittle at base, but on some vigorous sprouts not brittle at base at all; vigorous sprouts with larger stipules. Pistillate, with old inflorescences.
