Habitat:
Floodplain of Camp Creek, old pastures, growing up to Salix exigua, Fraxinus pennsylvanica var. subintegerrima, Juglans nigra, Laportea canadensis, Viburnum lentago, and with a plantation of Quercus bicolor, Betula nigra, Cornus stolonifera.
Occurrence Remarks:
Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, RSAw.; Shrub 1.5 m. tall, with a dozen stemsm of various sizes in a tight clump, much-branched above, theh younger stems very bristly an dspiny, 3-year-old stems still with some bristles and spines; 4-to 5-year-old stems 1.3 cm. in diameter, the bristles and spines all now shed and bark beginning to shred and peel; bark shallowly and longitudinally furrowed, with pale ridges, and the darker area between dark and with lenticels. Fruit very immature, green.
