Habitat: Plants a common component of sand prairie on south-facing slope above the river. Prairie dominated by Andropogon gerardii, Sorghastrum nutans, Hesperostipa spartea, Schizachyrium scoparium. Associates include Penstemon grandiflorus, Lithospermum caroliniense, Tradescantia occidentalis, Bouteloua curtipendula.
