Habitat:
Deschampsia was growing over a large portion of a weakly alkaline, hillslope seepage spring on top of a thick layer of pure organic muck. The population occupied at least a 1000 square feet. The site is surrounded by reed canary grass which halts abruptly and cannot encroach upon the organic, springy soils where Deschampsia is growing. Watch out for deep muck deposits - walk through the sandy rivulets. Associated dominant species included Mentha hybrids and Angelica atropurpurea
