Habitat:
Ridgetop forest over Prairie du Chien dolomite. Quercus alba, Q. rubra, Tilia americana, Carya ovata, Prunus serotina, with understory of Zanthoxylum americanum, Podophyllum peltatum and recently invasion of Lonicera maackii.
Occurrence Remarks:
Single tree of this species in this part of the woods, 17 m. tall, 20 cm. in diameter, ca. 40 years old with the first 10 years of growth very slow. Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MAD2, MEXUw, RSAw, Penn State. Leaves from near top of canopy and still shaded by mature nearby trees; no fruits present.
