Habitat: Varying from open, dry and pure sand with prairie, to the more dominant floodplain forest of Betula nigra, Ulmus americana, Acer saccharinum, Fraxinus pennsylvanica var. pennsylvanica.
Occurrence Remarks: Forming a colony. Young rhizomes pink.
