Habitat:
Young woods and open areas, with Ulmus rubra, Rhamnus cathartica, Lonicera maackii, Cornus rugosa, C. racemosa, Juniperus virginiana, Betula papyrifera, Populus grandidentata, Andropogon gerardii.
Occurrence Remarks:
Seems to be a shrub with few stems from base in a clump, 4 m. tall. Leaves green beneath and only slightly paler than above; note the larger and more vigorous twigs with stipules, the shorter ones without them.
