Habitat:
Floodplain of river, marshy area in old oxbow, complete dominance of Phalaris arundinacea, with scattered trees of Salix nigra, S. interior and shrubs of Cephalanthus occidentalis, Cornus obliqua.
Occurrence Remarks:
Shrub, forming a loose clump of 5 stems this size, 2.8 cm. in diameter and ca. 11 years old (rings difficult to count), and a few smaller replacement stems. Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, RSAw. Twigs dull dark purplish; pith tan. Flowers white, held in flat-topped clusters on erect peduncles, with little odor (9:30 A.M., sunny).
