Growing with Abies balsamifera, Acer rubrum, Betula alleghiensis, B. papyrifera, Thuja occidentalis, Alnus rugosa, Cornus canadensis, Ilex verticillata, Dryopteris carthusiana, Lycopodium annotinum, Onoclea sensibilis, Osmunda cinnamomea, Caltha palustris, Coptis trifoliata, Glyceria striata, Trientalis borealis, etc.
