On mounded ground at bases of trees & atop boulders, base of damp wooded E-facing slope, under Quercus alba, Q. rubra, Carpinus caroliniana, & Prunus virginiana with Carex pensylvanica, C. radiata, Lonicera dioica, Ranunculus abortivus, Rosa blanda (rare), Podophyllum peltatum, & Thalictrum dioicum.
