Etymology: Scheuchzeria: for early 18th century Swiss botanists, Johann and Johann Jacob Scheuchzer
Plants: erect, perennial, 8"-16" tall forb; stems nodes with many long hairs
Leaves: alternate, with a prominent ligule, obvious pore on the inside of the tip, dilated sheath; grass-like blade 2"-12" long
Flowers: yellow to green, 6-parted; inflorescence a 1"-4" tall a terminal cluster of stalked flowers (raceme); blooms May-June
Habitat: moist; cold bogs; in sphagnum soil
Conservation Status: Native
