Etymology: Cycloloma: from Greek cyclos, "a circle," and loma, referring to the calyx-wing, so "circular wing"
Plants: erect to spreading, annual, 4"-32" tall forb turning reddish at maturity; stems densely branched Leaves: irregularly toothed, smaller toward the top, all falling as the plant matures Flowers: green, minute, 5-parted, stalkless, no petals, sepals becoming reddish; inflorescence an interrupted spike from most of the top branches; blooms July-Aug. Fruits: winged Habitat: sun; dry; in sandy soil Conservation Status: Native |
