Leaves: opposite, lance-like to ovate, usually less than 3 times as long as wide
Flowers: pink to white, 5-parted, 1/2" long, irregularly tube-shaped; inflorescence of many flowers in rounded, dense, widely separated whorls from the upper leaf axils; blooms July-Sept.
Fruits: 1-seeded nutlet
Habitat: shade to partial shade; woods, forests
