Plants: erect, perennial, 1-3' tall, semi-aquatic, emergent sedge, interlocking stands; stems stiff, round, hollow unlike most sedges; spreading rhizomes Leaves: narrow 2-7" long stiff, spiraling up and away from stem Flowers: inflorescence long spikelets in 2 rows in upper leaf axils Fruits: brownish, beaked nutlet with fine barbed bristles Habitat: wet; shallows less than 3' deep Conservation Status: Native |
