Etymology: Tiarella: diminutive of tiara for "a tiara" or "turban," referring to the pistil, like Mitella, to which name Miterwort probably belongs; also diminutive of Greek tiara (a small crown) referring to the fruit.
Plants: erect, perennial, 4"-14" tall forb Leaves: basal with 3-5 shallow, palmately-divided lobes Flowers: white, 5-parted, 1/4"-1/3" wide, stalked, petals clawed; inflorescence a spike-like, up to 4" tall, terminal cluster (raceme) on a long, leafless stalk; blooms April-May Habitat: partial sun, shade; moderate moisture; woods, forests; in loamy soil Conservation Status: Endangered
