Plants: erect, perennial, 4"-40" tall, semi-aquatic, emergent sedge, alone or in spaced cluster; from rhizomes Leaves: sheaths as base of stem Flowers: in spiral covered by brownish scales; inflorescence solitary pointed spikelet Fruits: gold brown nutlet with half of top covered with a cap Habitat: wet; marshes, ditches, shores, water to 6' deep |
