Etymology: Bartonia: for Prof. Benjamin Smith Barton, of Philadelphia
Plants: erect, annual, 4"-16" tall forb; stems with a few branches
Leaves: tiny, scale-like, usually opposite, with little chlorophyll
Flowers: yellowish, 4-parted, 1/8" long, stalked, petals oblong; inflorescence a branched cluster (panicle); blooms July-Sept.
Habitat: wet; bogs, meadows, sandy-peaty ditches
Conservation Status: Native
