Etymology: Arnoglossum: Greek for arnos, "lamb" and glossum for "tongue" Plants: erect, perennial, 2'-5' tall forb; angled stems marked by fine, mostly parallel lines Leaves: oval basal leaves, upper leaves somewhat lobed; parallel-veined, thick and firm, often eaten by insects Flowers: head white to cream, cylindrical; inflorescence a 6" flat-topped umbel; blooms July-Aug. Habitat: wet to moderate moisture; meadows, prairies, bogs; in limy, loamy soil Conservation Status: Threatened
