Betula papyrifera dominates this successional stand in which Abies balsamea and Populus tremuloides are sub-dominant tree species; Alnus rugosa dominates the shrub layer with Abies balsamea sub-dominant; Aster macrophyllous [macrophyllus ] prevails in the herb stratum; soil is a heavy, lacustrine red clay.
