Habitat:
Southern lowland (river valley) forest; Acer saccharinum (mostly frequent tree)-Fraxinus pennsylvanica (2nd-most frequent), with Ulmus americana (3rd), Celtis occidentalis (4th), and Juglans nigra (5th).
Notes:
Straggly, sparsely branched shrub, mostly 14-19 dm high, erect but crooked, neither trailing nor climbing; forming a patch.
