Young woods in fencerow between cultivated fields on gentle SE-facing woods of small valley. Prunus serotina, Carya ovata, Juglans nigra, Ulmus americana, U. rubra, Celtis occidentalis.
Tree 35 cm. in diameter. Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw. Wood dark brown. Only a single fruit found, on ground, green, 6 x 6.5 cm. in diameter, much larger at this stage than after the husk dries and turns dark brown. The numerous Juglans nigra and Carya ovata trees in the vicinity produced few if any fruits this year, perhaps because of a damaging late-spring frost?
