Formerly pastured, level terrace just above the floodplain, in broad valley. With scattered Quercus macrocarpa, Q. ellipsoidalis, the area originally savanna.
Pistillate clone ca. 15 m. in diameter, forming a low, circular dome shape, the larger (older) stems in the middle to 4 m. tall, to 9 cm. in diameter and 23 years old (e.g. the stem cut for wood specimen), irregularly spaced, ca. 1 m. apart, but with some smaller ones interspersed, the clone still expanding with sprouts less than 1 m. tall on the periphery. Voucher for wood speciemens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw. Evidently in or near anthesis as staminate clones in the vicinity are beginning to release pollen. Pistillate; the inflorescences inconspicuous, with a few ferruginous hairs; perianth and stigmas yellow-green.
