Habitat: Fringe of trees and shrubs, Populus tremuloides, Picea glauca, Pteridium aquilinum, Salix spp., Prunus pensylvanica, Cornus alternifolia. Level, open areas maintained in early stage of regeneration of Populus tremuloides for sharp-tail grouse habitat, edge of extensive Sphagnum bog.
Notes: Treelet 3 m. tall, with single erect stem, 3 cm. in diameter, 13 years old. Voucher for wood specimens in Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw. Fruit yellow-green, with red on insolated side, turning darker reddish.
