Habitat: Brushy old ridgetop field, somewhat prairie-like, becoming overgrown with Rhus glabra, rare Elaeagnus umbellata, Cornus racemosa.
Notes: Common, the smaller ones invading old prairie/field, the larger ones to 2.5 m. tall along edge of young woods, 3.3 cm. in diameter, 18 years old; the older and larger plants are senescent. Sap milky. Voucher for wood speciemens in Kw, Lw, MADw, RSAw. Flowers yellow-green, lightly and pleasantly fragrant (1:00 PM, sunny).
