Habitat:
Floodplain of river, just below the old railroad tracks (now a hiking trail). Edge of marsh with Phalaris arundinacea, Ulmus americana, Alnus incana ssp. rugosa, Corylus americana, Acer negundo.
Occurrence Remarks:
Tree, 15 m tall, this trunk 17 cm in diameter, the other two trunks similar, the species gets much larger here. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw; this same individual collected with mature leaves from another trunk on 5 July 2014 under no. 61282. Monoecious; the especially vigorous uppermost twigs all or mostly with staminate flowers and the anthers already dehisced; some twigs especially on lower or not vigorous branches have all pistillate flowers, with deep red stigmas.
