Habitat: Woods. Slopes of narrow valley, with Juglans nigra, Celtis occidentalis, Acer saccharum, Carpinus caroliniana, Ostrya virginiana, Ulmus. With rich soil in shade along small stream, and some weedy areas along mostly unshaded roadside of crushed limestone gravel.
Notes: Forming dense colonies in shade on rich soil. No flowers or fruits seen now.
