Habitat: Along grassed waterway between flat agricultural fields, with Carex, Spartina pectinacea, Solidago canadensis, Veronicastrum virginicum; wet prairie at time of settlement in the 1850s. Decades ago mowed twice a year for hay, now somewhat overgrown.
Notes: Patch of shrubs, 2.5 m tall, 3 cm in diameter. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw. Leafy twigs brown or green; pith of 2-year-old twigs brown; leaves glaucous beneath. Fruit green.
