Habitat:
Floodplain of river, along bike trail, formerly a railroad line, with Salix nigra, Acer saccharinum, Quercus ellipsoidalis, Q. macrocarpa.
Notes:
Tree, 9 m tall, 15 cm in diameter, 9 years old, in clumps of up to ca. 10 stems, none larger than this one, in periodically flooded area. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw; flowering material from a different trunk of this same individual collected on 22 May 2014 under no. 61080. Twigs tough in the middle, but very brittle at the base. Pistillate. Fruits sparse; upper vegetative twigs with vigorous growth have more and larger leaves with more prominent stipules. Leaves green above and below.
