Habitat: Woods of Populus tremuloides, Acer rubrum, Alnus incana ssp. rugosa, Prunus serotina, P. virginiana, Corylus americana, Cornus racemosa.
Notes: Shrub 2.8 m tall, with several arching stems to 2.2 cm in diameter in a loose clump. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw. Fruiting involucre green. Next year's staminate catkins greenish white, held below the leaves.
