S facing slope of field. With Tephrosia virginiana.
Primary Sampling Unit (PSU) 5, "Population" 3, individual "35". In earliest anthesis; all other individuals past anthesis or past fruiting. Many adventitious shoots on roots seen. 1973 May 24, Population 3 (revisited with Robert Gittens). In meiosis. Steep hillside with Andropogon scoparius, Poa compressa, Aster drummondii?, Juniperus virginiana, Sisyrinchium, Antennaria neglecta, Viola pedata, Hypoxis hirsuta. Ca 9 flowering stalks. In the nearby "Population" 2, Individuals 2 & 5B have n = ca 54 & ca 46, both very rough counts, but at least indicating the population is tetraploid (1972 Nov 24).
