United States, Wisconsin, Grant, S of Woodman, SW of Big Green River & Green River School.
Habitat:
On rock outcrop in pasture. Loamy soil between rocks where individuals are rooted with pH = 7.8-8.0 (the same as in a nearby corn field); clay soil of pasture with pH 5.6-5.8. Some in light shade of Betula papyrifera & Tilia american. With Poa compressa, P. angustifolia Daucus Carota, Achillea millefolium, Erigeron strigosus, Rhus glabra, Euphorbia, Ambrosia artemisiafolia, Tragopogon dubius, Plantago lanceolata, Toxicodendron radicans, Aquilegia canadensis, Lobelia spicata, Potentilla arguta, Campanula rotundifolia, Aster.

Originally collected by R.R. Kowal, 1970 Jun 25. Population Primary Sampling Unit (PSU) 3, individual 10B, grown in Test Garden 2, position A36. Voucher for chromosome count: 2n = 22 II, 8 cells counted (1972 Apr 6). Chromosome counts of cultivated Individuals 2, 3, 6, & 9: 2n = 22 II with 7, 5, 4, & 11 cells counted, respectively (1972 Jun 11 & 12, 1971 Feb 22, 1972 Jun 11, 1972 Mar 31, respectively); Individual 5 is a tetraploid!
