Habitat: Sandy, droughty loam. Corridor dotted with Salix humilis and Abies balsamea saplings. Vegetation fairly sparse. Associates include scattered Pteridium aquilinum and stunted Osmunda claytonii, along with Rubus alleghaniensis, Fragaria virginiana, Hieracium aurantiacum, Trifolium pratense, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Aster macrophyllus, Aster ciliolatus, Bromus ciliatus, Danthonia spicata, and Anaphalis margaritacea. Hundreds of plants within an approximately 25 m2 area atop small hill. Flowers lavender with yellow lower lip base.(UWSP, WIS)
