Habitat: In 1.0--1.8 meters of water on a sand bottom with a light muck covering, among sparse vegetation consisting of "wild rice" (Zizania, probably Z. palustris), coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum), water-marigold (Megalodonta beckii), and elodea (Elodea canadensis).
Notes: 20--30 plants spread along a 90-ft. length of shore. Plants entirely submersed; roots dense, fibrous; stems thick, fleshy; leaves bright green.
