Habitat: Undisturbed northern mesic forest, dominated by Acer saccharum, with Tsuga canadensis subdominant in this part of the stand, and scattered Betula allegheniensis and Pinus strobus; shrub layer minimally developed but herbaceous flora rich. More or less wet spot; assoc.: Athyrium filix-femina var. angustum, Carex brunnescens, C. leptonervia, Claytonia virginica, Dryopteris carthusiana, Mitella nuda, Ranunculus recurvatus, Thelypteris phegopteris, and Trillium flexipes.
