Habitat: Acer saccharum-Tilia americana forest, with Betula alleghaniensis & Fraxinus nigra; uneven rocky terrain, wet from seepage, with springy pockets & fallen mossy logs; lower SW-facing slope. Associated species: Equisetum arvense, Athyrium angustum, Onoclea sensibilis, Osmunda claytoniana, Dryopteris cristata, Thelypteris phegopteris, Glyceria candensis, G. striata, Carex disperma, C. scabrata, C. stipata, C. intumescens, C. projecta, C. retrorsa (in wettest spots), Clintonia borealis, Laportea canadensis, Actaea rubra, Impatiens biflora, Circaea alpina, Sium suave, Mertensia paniculata, Aster macrophyllus, A. puniceus.
