Habitat: Oak opening/savanna. Growing on a southwest facing slope, in mostly sun. Associates include Quercus alba (dominant in canopy), Carya ovata, young Prunus serotina, Carex pensylvanica, Carex convoluta, Populus tremuloides, Anemone cylindrica, Geranium maculatum, Fragaria virginiana, Viola pedatifida, Podophyllum peltatum, Vicia americana, Luzula multiflora.
