Habitat: Fen. Growing in wet black peaty soil. Associates include Solidago uliginosa, Rhynchospora capillacea, Tofieldia glutinosa, Solidago ohioensis, Potentilla fruticosa, Lobelia kalmii, Parnassia glauca, Cyperus rivularis, Aster lateriflorus, Agalinis purpurea, Scleria verticillata, Gentianopsis procera, Aster borealis, Circium muticum, Lycopus rubellus, Sorghastrum nutans, Andropogon gerardi.
