Habitat: Medium-good stand of dry prairie on undulating ground; Waukesha sandy loam, the surface layer here sandy, acidic; former RR. Immediate associates: Agropyron repens, Sorghastrum nutans, Potentilla arguta, Desmodium illinoense, Lespedeza capitata, Petalostemum sp., Euphorbia corollata, A. psilostachya, Aster azureus, Gnaphalium obtusifolium. Additional species present on prairie: Andropogon gerardii, A. scoparius, Aristida basiramea, Panicum oligosanthes var. scribnerianum, P. virgatum, Polygonatum biflorum, Salix humilis, Corylus americana, Quercus velutina, Silene sp., Geum triflorum, Melilotus alba, Rhus glabra, Ceanothus americana, Vitis riparia, Helianthemum bicknellii, Cornus amomum ssp. obliqua, Asclepias verticillata, Monarda fistulosa, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Centaurea maculosa, Conyza canadensis, Lactuca biennis, L. canadensis var. latifolia, Liatris aspera, and Solidago nemoralis.
