Habitat: Mucky mossy, ditch-like bottom of strip of low prairie (Agrostis gigantea dominant, Spartina pectinata and Eleocharis compressa locally subdominant); assoc.: Agalinis tenuifolia, Carex granularis, C. cristatella, Erechtites hieracifolia, Euthamia graminifolia, Gentiana andrewsii, Juncus dudleyi, J. torreyi, Liatris sp., Lysimachia sp., Lycopus americanus, Panicum virgatum, Salix glaucophylloides, S. petiolaris, Scirpus atrovirens, Solidago riddellii, and Verbena hastata. Some places mostly E. compressa, other spots all E. elliptica, the latter in little patches of bare mud with hardly any other species.
