Habitat: Lovely 18-acre, dry-mesic to mesic prairie remnant. Dry-mesic prairie on lower-middle slope of W-facing ridge, surrounded by mostly open agricultural land; Dodgeville silt loam soil. Colony partly overtaken by Zanthoxylum americanum thicket, partly extending several yds. onto open prairie, where assoc. w/ Amorpha canescens, Cornus racemosa, Dodecatheon meadia (abundant), Eryngium yuccifolium, Hypoxis hirsuta, Lithospermum canescens, Monarda fistulosa, Silphium integrifolium, S. laciniatum, and Toxicodendron rydbergii (abundant).
